Quick thought experiment about Moral Dilemmas

Can you think of a tricky moral dilemma that doesn’t involve weighing two impacts, with one being “objectively” less, with sentimental value, against a greater counterbalance?  For example, one dilemma is if you would kill your mom to save the lives of 50 strangers.  One death seems preferable to fifty, but the fact that it is your mom makes you add additional weight.  Other experiments are listed here.  http://www.friesian.com/valley/dilemmas.htm

Do you think any of these are something other than the comparison of sentimental weight to objective quantification?

  1. Ross says:

    1. Killing an innocent person to save your life.

    2. A medical experiment that will hurt people, but if successful, might (or might not) cure a lot more people.

    3. Blowing up Hummers to draw attention to environmental problems.
